How to downgrade or disable Cursor auto-updates

Cursor is a great tool, but a lot of devs (me included) have experienced reliance problems with recent updates. In my case, the experience running Cursor 0.47.x is entirely different from running 0.45, and not in a good way.

As additional problem, Cursor will auto-upgrade by default as soon as you launch the app, and the way to block this auto-upgrade is not clear.

How to disable Cursor automatically updating?

  • Go to Settings
  • Look for “update.mode” in the search bar
  • Switch to “none
  • Restart cursor

How to downgrade Cursor to a specific version?

  • Uninstall Cursor (eg: 0.47)
  • Download the Cursor version that worked reliable for you (eg: 0.45)
  • Install it
  • Disable internet
  • Go to Settings
  • Look for “update.mode” in the search bar
  • Switch to “none
  • Restart cursor

Hope it helps!
